Song of the Day: Skream remix of Jah No Partial & “Free the Universe” EP

Free The Universe

Finally, “Free the Universe” is released!  The long awaited dancehall/reggae/electronic fusion album from Major Lazer was officially released today.   I received a leaked copy and was jamming hard to this album on the ski hill over the weekend.  The standout tracks, in my opinion, are of course “Get Free”, the 2012 hit featuring Amber of the Dirty Projectors, but also the Skream remix of Jah No Partial – WOW.  The drop sounds a lot like Skrillex’s Kyoto, but the fusion of the bass, garage and reggae styles on this remix is amazing.  After first hearing the original “Jah No Partial”, I felt that there was a bit too much of the trap and bass elements from Flux Pavilion, but the Skream remix takes this track to above and beyond anything that the original contained.

Enjoy!

Originally scheduled for two other Marble events, the date is finally confirmed for Kill Paris’s first Seattle performance.  Jason DiGiammarco of Marble confirmed that Kill Paris will be at Bubble Bobble 8, stating “Darth & Vader is still booked for the Anniversary show. The week it came out, it was listed as the #4 trance release of the week which was also great to hear.   …   I want to thank each and every person who has gone out and supported this track.  Its my debut track and to have the success that its already had is absolutely mind blowing.

Local Spotlight: Elive

elive studio

Elive” is Joshua Schweigert and Glen Sears, who teamed up in 2012 to form Elive.  Elive was recently signed to DLA Recordings, with their debut track “Save My Life” is scheduled for release on March 13th.

About:

Joshua, originally from South Dakota, and Glen, from Chicago, both became active in Seattle’s music scene about two years ago.  Josh via the Seattle DJ circuit, and Glen via the rock music world.  About the Seattle scene, Elive stated “We love the atmosphere here, it’s incredibly large and distinct and inspiring.  Since we’ve been making music together we’ve really tapped into the energy that exists in the Northwest for music.”  About their distinctive name, Elive stated “We wanted a name that could be timeless, something that really captured the intensity and love we feel when making or performing music. We didn’t want something trendy or cliched, or something that was difficult to remember. We get the most unimaginable rush through music, and we wanted that emotion to translate through our name (and our music).

“Save My Life” release:

Elive

After an impressive first event opening for Britain’s EC Twins at Foundation Nightclub, Elive has been primarily focusing on music production.   Elive’s sound is definitely uplifting and progressive  and combines elements of trance and progressive house.   “Save My Life” features a driving beat with the beautiful soaring vocals of Jessica Chappell.  Stay tuned for the track’s release via DLA Recordings on March 13th!

About the track, Elive stated “This track was a long time coming.  We wanted something that would touch people and set us apart from all the bass music that’s currently so popular.  It went through many iterations, bouncy house, really downtempo progressive, and finally the uplifting, slightly trance version that got released.  It drove our vocalist mad, she kept having to come back and re-record the vocals in different styles!  But when we debuted it as our final track at the EC Twins show, people loved it and went nuts, and right then we knew we’d gotten it right.”

Elive’s next live event will be opening for Gabriel & Dresden at Foundation Nightclub in Seattle on February 23rd.  About the event, Elive stated “we’ll be opening for Gabriel & Dresden at Foundation Nightclub in Seattle on February 23rd.  We’re very excited for this show and we hope to see everyone there!”  Purchase tickets here and RSVP on Facebook for the show here.

Elive will be a part of an upcoming mini-tour of Southern California with City 17, and is planning to release a podcast.  Stay tuned for details on the upcoming tour, and check out Elive’s Soundcloud for other remixes & material.  An announcement for the mini So-Cal tour will be released within the next few weeks.

Anything else?

Elive:  ”We like music.  People like to dance.  We decided to combine the two.  We hope, along with the support of some other great producers and DJs here in Seattle, to put the Northwest on the map as a place that legitimate, amazing electronic dance music comes from.  We hope you and your readers will help us achieve that!”

Song of the Day: M Machine remix of “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars

bruno-mars

Today’s featured track is The M Machine‘s remix of “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars.  I originally heard this remix earlier this week, but didn’t post about it because I am not the biggest fan of the original track, though I do greatly enjoy Bruno’s vocal style.  However, after listening to The M Machine’s remix a few more times, I am starting to love the remix more each time.

I can’t even categorize this under one genre!   The remix incorporates elements of a DnB sound with the breathless sound gaps of glitch, along with beautiful soulful dubstep-esque drops, and the most beautiful chord progressions – whatever genre this is, I love it.  Enjoy and TGIF!

Prodigy – Fat of the Land – 15th anniversary edition:

I’m not going to date myself but this album was a BIG DEAL to me in the 2000′s.   The real standout on the release, IMO, is the Noisia remix of “Smack My Bitch Up”.

Information about the release per the Prodigy’s website:  ”The release “The ‘Fat Of The Land’ expanded double disc set is released to celebrate the 15th anniversary of one of the 1990′s all-time classic dance albums.  This set includes the original album, plus the ‘Added Fat’ bonus disc which includes remixes by Major Lazer, Glitch Mob and Noisia amongst others.

Song (EP) of the Day: Seven Lions/Days to Come EP

Today’s featured song (EP) of the day is the Seven Lions EP “Days to Come” by Seven Lions.  The EP includes four tracks,  ”Days To Come”, “The Truth”, “Fractals”, and “She Was” – ALL of which I absolutely love!  It’s rare for me to enjoy every track on an EP, but I absolutely LOVE the Seven Lions sound.

The genre is technically dubstep, but Seven Lions incorporates elements of Trance, Progressions, and absolute beauty in his sound.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Seven Lions remix of Tritonal’s trance banger ”Still With Me”, make sure to grab your copy here.  Enjoy!
