May 30 @ 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Lee Reynolds/SHAMELESS ROOFTOP PARTY at the Monkey Loft @ Monkey Loft | Seattle | Washington | United States

Time to kick on another rooftop season at the Monkey Loft! This year for Memorial Day we’ve invited back our good friend Lee Reynolds from Desert Hearts for a three hour set. Plus, Yo Yo Yoga is back on the deck at noon to start this party out right. Stretch then dance! Advance ticket information for each event is coming soon. Shameless presents 2nd Annual Memorial Day Hijinks, An afternoon rooftop party!

Lee Reynolds (Desert Hearts, LA): Originally from England, Lee Reynolds moved to California in 1988 to ride BMX bikes. After numerous injuries he switched his focus from one pair of wheels to another, and started DJing in ‘92, quickly beginning to throw parties in the San Diego area, and focusing on the ambient and psychedelic sounds of the time.. an influence that will always remain. Not content with just chillin’ out the newly dubbed ‘Dr.Indulgent’ began to explore the more leftfield areas of dance music, collecting weird records on frequent trips back to London, playing gigs up and down the West Coast, and appearing on early internet radio shows such as Groovetech. Fast forward to 2014 and Lee is heavily involved in the Southern California tech/house movement, co-hosting the popular Desert Hearts, Tropical Hearts, Moonshake & Tribalove parties, playing at the legendary Moontribe and Lightning in a Bottle events, and often DJing south of the border. With over 20 years of experience under his belt Lee has never had more fun DJing!!!

Robbie Hardkiss/HUNT & GATHER at Rebar [OPEN TO CLOSE SET!]
Jun 3 all-day
Robbie Hardkiss/HUNT & GATHER at Rebar [OPEN TO CLOSE SET!] @ Rebar | Seattle | Washington | United States

Hunt & Gather presents EPIC – Robbie Hardkiss – Open To Close Set

Think about the last time you went out and heard something (or someone) new. When you were entranced, surprised, intrigued, delighted by what was coming out of the speakers. When you ditched the crowd at the bar and found a new one on the dancefloor. When you forgot what time it was, what year it was, when you stayed out later than you thought you would because you couldn’t bear to miss the next record, or the next few. The best DJs live and breathe music all day long, but you only get to hear them for an hour at a time. It’s time to change that. At Epic, it’s all headline. Every month, talented locals and visiting guests will take over the whole Re-Bar, for the whole night, so you can hear what they’re all about. Not just what they can find the time to play in a one-hour slot, but what they’d play for you and your friends in their living room. Not just the hits, but the inspiration behind them. Open to close sets are a true test of any DJ and a challenge that most live for. They are chance for the DJ to immerse the dance floor in the groove, shift the focus across the full experience and tell a complete story.

ROBBIE HARDKISS (Hardkiss Music, Classic Music Company): Robbie Hardkiss, a legendary DJ/producer based in San Francisco, helped pioneer the US electronic dance scene with the groundbreaking record label Hardkiss Music. Hardkiss quickly became part of the international DJ elite, jetting to raves and clubs around the world to spin his unique blend of genre hopping funk. Through the years, he has put his Prince inspired production style and vocals on remixes and releases for a number of labels, including renowned imprints Classic, Siesta and Glenview Records. Recently, he released a new Hardkiss album with “brother” Gavin Hardkiss called 1991. The album spawned a slew of singles with remixes by friends and collaborators; Sleazy McQueen, Space Coast, Mark E, N’Dinga Gaba, Corduroy Mavericks, All Good Funk Alliance, James Curd, Stephane Deschezeaux, David Harness, DJ Spun, Atnarko, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Love Athletics, Constar, RAin, Freakpusher and Adam Warped. Robbie and Gavin also recently re-released a 20th Anniversary remastered version of the seminal Hardkiss double album Delusions of Grandeur. A previously out of print classic, Delusions spent time on the Billboard Dance charts and went to #1 on the Rolling Stone Alternative chart, helping pave the way for electronic music’s
entrance into the mainstream.

Trinitron/SOFT OPTION at the Monkey Loft
Jun 4 all-day
Trinitron/SOFT OPTION at the Monkey Loft @ Monkey Loft | Seattle | Washington | United States

Soft Option (n): 1. in a number of choices, the one considered to be easy or the easiest to do, involving the least difficulty or exertion. Soft Option showcases the best in Seattle’s musical talent and local flavor, and for De La Creme, it’s the right way to do things. Hot For Teacher edition celebrates Trinitron, one of our favorite teachers in Seattle. She’ll whoop you with a lesson in books AND beats for her birthday. Along with Trin, we have Richie Staxx and Demetre Baca ,from Portland (Rose City Underground) and Karl Kamakahi to warm you up proper. Whether you’re nerdy or naughty, rock plaid or tweed, suspenders or stove pipes, Van Halen or Hail Marys, briefcases or bookstraps… We’re giving you the opportunity to get with the program and excel with this theme. Dress for A+, or come as you are. Additionally, we’re the official after party for Parke Diem 2016! When you’re done playing in the grass, come head to class.

TRINITRON – Bounce Brunch: Nominated for Best Female DJ 2013 & 2014 by D List magazine, DJ Trinitron has DJ’d in Seattle’s hottest spots: Q, ReBar, Monkey Loft, Kremwerk, Last Supper Club, SeeSound, Corbu, LoFi, Electric Tea Garden, Chapel, The Big Building…. Prague, San Francisco, Portland, Lake Tahoe, Bellingham and a sweet weekly night internationally in Iraq! She has also appeared on the ITV Live internet broadcast and The Vortex on C89.5. DJ Trinitron’s passion for electronic music began in the early 1990’s. She was lucky enough to be able to listen to C89.5, which to this day, plays electronic beats. While attending Seattle University she was also able to experience the underground rave movement. But her true love for Chicago style house came from nights at Flammable at ReBar. Slowly the electro house influence creeped in to Seattle and DJ Trinitron found another love. The fateful DJ night occurred at an after hours when a friend looked at her and said “you love music too much. Get on these turntables and figure it out”. She did, and a few months later bought her first set of equipment. She’s spun at multiple nights around Seattle and took it international during her time in Iraq.

Klingande at the Neptune
Jun 12 all-day
Klingande at the Neptune @ The Neptune Theatre | Seattle | Washington | United States

STG presents Klingande: Champion of the melodic house genre, Cedric Steinmyller – best known as Klingande – has been breathing new life into the electronic music world with his impeccable productions and uplifting sound, cementing his reputation as one of the most refreshing and original producers around today. A welcome departure from the big room house sound that has been dominating the scene of late, Klingande’s sublime melodies have earned him recognition from industry heavyweights Kygo, Bakermat, Robin Schulz and Klangkarussel to name just a few.

Hailing from Croix, Northern France, Cedric began studying music theory as a child before later becoming immersed in electronic music as a teenager, learning to DJ and subsequently working on his own original productions. Discovering his passion for electronic music, his immense appreciation for Sweden’s booming dance music culture inspired him to eventually settle on the moniker Klingande, taken from the Swedish word for sounding – something that continues to cause confusion as to his origins to this day! Committed to furthering his vocation, Cedric moved to London where he spent a year studying at the famed Point Blank Music College, learning every facet of music production and experiencing multiple genres, a testament to his drive and determination to reach the top of his game.

Returning to his hometown back in 2012, Klingande holed himself up in the studio, honing his now signature sound to unveil his delightful debut single ‘Punga’. However, it was his follow up ‘Jubel’ in 2013 that rightfully propelled the young producer into the spotlight. Truly embodying the Swedish word it was named after, ‘Jubel’ instantly captivated listeners with its joyous and uplifting sound, becoming one of the first standout tracks of its genre. Since then, the record has amassed over 100 million views on YouTube, an additional 17 million plays across SoundCloud and a further 51 million on Spotify, as well as taking the #1 spot in 30 countries to become the most Shazamed track across Europe. Fast forward to early 2016 and Klingande has just released his fascinating featurette ‘3 Years of Music & Love’, offering an insight into the producer’s journey so far, as well as teasing fans with an exclusive sneak peak of his new single ‘Losing U’. Due to be released in February, Klingande’s third original production is yet another captivating composition destined to dominate the festival circuit this summer. Unsurprisingly, it was not long before the burgeoning star caught the attention of talent scouts and tastemakers around the globe, and as the praise rolled in thick and fast, so too did the requests. Called upon by Thomas Jack to provide the fourth volume of his revered Tropical House series, his guest mixes have been applauded by the likes of Billboard and Dancing Astronaut and he has been called upon for remix treatments by everyone from Avicii & Wyclef Jean to Parov Stelar.

A musician in the truest sense of the word, what sets Klingande apart from the rest is his dedication to producing unusual and mesmerizing soundscapes. Constantly introducing instruments not usually encountered in typical electronic music, his third official single ‘RIVA (Restart The Game)’ – released earlier in 2015 and featuring French singer Broken Back – even saw him experiment with the harmonica to almighty applause. Bringing his saxophone player to every show he plays, Klingande ensures this experimental attitude resonates throughout his live performances and it is therefore no surprise that he has been called upon to play at major festivals, from Ultra Music Festival in Miami to Tomorrowland and TomorrowWorld. Just two months in and 2016 is already on course to be Klingande’s most prolific year to date. With the release of ‘Losing U’, the promise of an upcoming album, as well as a live tour in the works that will see him bringing out musicians playing the guitar, violin, harmonica, drums, saxophone and even singers, Klingande shows absolutely no signs of putting on the brakes, making sure that he remains the one to watch.

DLR & Sam Binga/DnB TUESDAYS at the Baltic Room @ Baltic Room | Seattle | Washington | United States

DNB Tuesdays: Bringing you over 17 dedicated years of Drum and Bass artists, and local talent in Seattle!

DLR (DISPATCH // METALHEADZ // HOSPITAL): 2013 sees J DLR step up to his solo career, and he is stepping up in a big way. Straight off the back of his album last year with Octane ‘Method… in the Madness’ which was in the list of top 5 albums of the year, with seminal track ‘Set up the Set’ making it into Noisia’s Top 10 for 2013 as well as endless airplay on Radio 1. He has begun this year in a dramatic way announcing a solo stance with impending releases on Metalheadz, Dispatch, Prolix’s Trendkill Records, and the prolific Break’s imprint; Symmetry Recordings, and a remix from Spectrasoul’s recent album nearing on Shogun Audio.

SAM BINGA (EXIT // CRITICAL // 50WEAPONS): Something’s happening to the faster side of dance music. Maybe it’s the hyperactive influence of juke’s chopped-up 808s, the embrace of dubstep’s half-time flow at a higher tempo or perhaps it’s simply the ongoing evolution of the mutation started by dBridge and the Autonomic podcasts. Whatever the origin, that spectrum of music between 160 and …

USC Events & Foundation Nightclub Present SUBstance Wednesdays: TWRK

Constantly evolving, spawning new sub-genres, and reaching into uncharted depths of the frequency range; bass music has been ingrained in the Seattle scene for well over two decades. Join us every Wednesday as we fuse the sounds of Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Trap, Moombahton, Glitch Hop, Drumstep, and everything in between to write the next chapter in this region’s bass music saga. No frills, no fluff, just industry champions and dedicated locals pushing our sound system to its limits every week. This is SUBstance.

About TWRK: The kings of the mid tempo jams, T W R K, were a mystery before Diplo outed their true identities on-air during their first Diplo & Friends show on BBC Radio 1xtra. The duo of Benzi and Esentrik hit the scene crushing dance floors from strip clubs, to frat houses, to the main stages of festivals by cranking out dance floor massives, including their global break out “BaDinga” (even Skrillex has his own dance to this one!). Their signature sound has everyone knocking down their door for remixes including Major Lazer, Jason Derulo, Naughty Boy & Wiz Kalifa, A-Trak’s project Low Pros, and even Diplo himself who’s “Biggie Bounce” (TWRK Remix) popped up in the Hollywood blockbuster “Lets Be Cops”.

The Magician/STUDIO 4x4 at Q @ Q Nightclub | Seattle | Washington | United States

Q Nightclub presents Studio 4/4: From House to Progressive to Tech to Deep to Disco, this night is all about 4/4 dance music as interpreted and presented by members of Lost Boys, Decibel, Flammable, Inner Flight and Trashed. Every Thursday night at Q.

THE MAGICIAN: One night not so long ago, The Magician – the alias of talented DJ/Producer Stephen Fasano – appeared from a place between space and time. Apparently he materialized in a cloud of crystal stars and soft pink smoke. Some claim he’s a former airline pilot who crashed an afterparty – some say it’s all just an illusion, a well-performed hoax. Previously a member of Aeroplane, Fasano disembarked that flight and boarded his own magical carpet ride in 2010. Fasano finally struck gold with his re-work of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” in 2011 and Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” in 2014. The Magician hit new heights with his massive summer 2014 smash “Sunlight” featuring the vocals of Olly Alexander from Years & Years.

Holy Fuck & Suuns at the Crocodile
Jun 18 all-day
Holy Fuck & Suuns at the Crocodile @ The Crocodile | Seattle | Washington | United States

Holy Fuck: If opposites really do attract, it makes perfect sense that Holy Fuck would chose a barn in rural Ontario to record a series of dynamic electro-noise pop that compose their latest full-length release, titled Latin. Where Holy Fuck in the past were a rotating cast of musicians, Latin showcases for the first time their consistent touring line up. Drummer Matt Schulz and bass player Matt McQuaid provide a complex rhythm foundation that at times feels like an invisible hand leading you through a dark hedge maze. Perhaps an excessive feat for most, but this provides the ideal underpinning as Brian Borcherdt and Graham Walsh merge a twin effects/feedback tangle that is equal parts entrancing and inspiring. The band had an absurdly busy touring schedule in 2008/2009 and Latin undoubtedly benefited from the near nightly shows. There is an added dimension of song craft on the album – Latin brings noise and melody together with an uncanny sense of optimism – but at the same time Holy Fuck have not lost the chaotic and euphoric energy that they are known for. When it came time for Holy Fuck to record, songs were cut live off the floor during their brief downtime at home. Delivered in trimesters, Latin was engineered by Graham Walsh and mixed by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene), D. Sardy (Johnny Cash, NIN), Eli Janney (GvsB, Wilco,), Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Primal Scream) and Holy Fuck themselves. It’s the follow up to 2007’s simply titled LP which Filter described as “nine perversely noisy, mind-bogglingly ferocious freakouts” and Spin said of it “Holy Fuck play the sort of id-gripping dance rock that’s best experienced in person. Luckily (LP) retains the raw energy of the live show, even without the visual barrage.” With high praise from peers, critics, big name endorsements and ascension on festival bills, Holy Fuck have the divine right to be profane. And with respected music luminaries Thom Yorke and Lou Reed passing on kind words about studio recordings and live performances, it’s no wonder Holy Fuck have become sought after.

Suuns: Montreal’s Suuns possess a rare trait in rock music: restraint. They use it like an instrument, which makes their debut full-length Zeroes QC as unsettling as it is wonderfully exasperating. It’s immediately apparent in album opener “Armed for Peace,” a track that starts off like a robot breaking down in a hot desert; the song’s mechanic beat plods like iron-shoed footsteps as the melody of a wheezing synth mirrors the crackling sound of old transistors and circuitry being cooked in the sun. It’s deceptively lulling, the tension almost unnoticeably wrenching up and up until the track unexpectedly opens into a barrage of nose-diving guitar riffs and crashing drums – yet the band still stays locked on the song’s linear, forward-motion direction. Suuns were born during the summer of 2006 when vocalist/guitarist Ben Shemie and guitarist/bassist Joe Yarmush got together to make some beats which quickly evolved into a few songs. The duo were soon joined by drummer Liam O’Neill and bassist/keyboardist Max Henry to complete the line-up. “I don’t think we were really a ‘band’ for the first year,” Ben surmises. It wasn’t until a friend helped them procure a spot at Pop Montreal 2007 that he says the group played their first “real gig.”

Last year, Suuns entered Breakglass Studios with Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes co-producing and engineering, and recorded their first album. The group wanted to create something that couldn’t be pigeonholed as simply indie rock. “Jace definitely had a huge impact for bringing to life the big sound of the band and being open and willing stretch out any idea we or he had,” Ben explains. The resulting Zeroes QC is a warm yet dark, propulsive collusion of pop, post-punk and experimental rock – one that allows the group to musically shapeshift without losing any of the sense of tension and unease that runs throughout the record. During tracks like “Gaze,” tightly wound guitars and bass ring and buzz atop Liam’s metronomic, powerhouse drumming, with Ben’s cool, detached vocals acting as a nervy counterweight as he delivers falsely assuring lines like, “Don’t you be yourself, you are someone else.” Often his close-miced sing/speak is as metronomic as it is melodic; in “Arena” Ben’s rhythmic “What-choo, what-choo”‘s are reminiscent of Suicide’s Alan Vega as he leads the band’s death disco groove into a bloodbath of razor-sharp guitars, while his icy, hushed delivery in “Sweet Nothing” is almost as motorik as the song itself. Most impressive, though, is how Suuns effortlessly sculpt memorable pop songs from experimental building blocks, frequently using noise and space as actual hooks. All of this amounts to a great first album – one that is as timeless as it is thrillingly modern.

Jay Tripwire/VIVA RECORDINGS at the Monkey Loft
Jun 18 all-day
Jay Tripwire/VIVA RECORDINGS at the Monkey Loft @ Monkey Loft | Seattle | Washington | United States

Viva Recordings presents THIS!

Jay Tripwire (Poker Flat, Superfreq, Viva Recordings): Always sitting slightly off-centre, Jay Tripwire is an artist that walks the line as industry staple and ever changing innovator, releasing one standout release after another. His signature fusion of deep Detroit textures and intricate rhythms has led a career spanning two decades, 200 releases and four full length albums. He remains one of the most prolific artists around. Most recently he’s completed a compilation mix for respected label Pokerflat – ‘Vol.8’ which features a blend of deep house ranging from Detroit inspired textures to modern European house and tech house fusions, blurring genrefication. This follows releases on the label under his 8Channels name – a project that melds basic channel, soul and dub into a new hybrid soundscape of techno, deep house and dub. The moniker also appears on other highly regarded labels such as Ransom Note, NRK and Hallucination. Jay himself has more than earned his stripes as a DJ. Whilst the term ‘legendary’ is often bandied about with little thought, in Jay’s case we could say just that – his personal arsenal of re-edits and comfort in arranging extended DJ sets lasting eight hours or more certainly demonstrates a talent that deviates from standard fare. The Tripwire production wheel is still very much in motion, and on its way to a turntable near you.

S3RL/ARCTIC at Studio 7 @ Studio 7 | Seattle | Washington | United States

Arctic Productions & Interstellar Records proudly present KAMEHAMEHA 3 – Dragon Ball Themed Party!! FEAT THE ONE AND ONLY DJ S3RL

DJ S3RL: DJ S3RL from Brisbane, Australia, has been writing and producing his own tracks since 1999. After discovering the original PlayStation’s game ‘Music 2000’ he taught himself how to write music and then eventually upgraded to a PC, starting learning to use ‘Reason’ to produce and hasn’t looked back. But before all of that, and most importantly, he was part of the rave scene as a raver letting loose on the dance floor and going to every event he could. Still today S3RL stays close to his rave heritage which shines through in his music and performances. S3RL scored his first break at the end of 2005 when hardcore legends Kevin Energy and Sharkey came down under. S3RL showed them his musical skills with a demo CD and it was only weeks later that contracts were being signed to join Kevin Energy’s infamous label The Nu Energy Collective (NEC). Releasing his first track ‘Transformers’ to vinyl made S3RL the first DJ in Queensland to be signed to a major, international hardcore label and not long after he was already mixing it up with names such as Hixxy, Gammer, Breeze, Styles, Scott Brown to name a few.

In the following years S3RL released a multitude of tracks to major hardcore labels such as the ‘NEC’, ‘Executive Records’, ‘Australia With Force’ and has since started his own label ‘Emfa Music’. His music has been featured on countless compilations and mixes, all this while show casing his talent live to a worldwide audience all around the world. With literally hundreds of tracks to his name including hits like ‘Pretty Rave Girl’ – the smash hit that truly broke him the into the scene – following that up with the harder sounding ‘Dealer’ – showing his spectrum of styles, and more recently ‘Pika Girl’ which has had millions of views all over YouTube. Also working with numerous bands from around the world, S3RL has been busy doing re-mixes and collaborations with bands and other music groups. The most notable being his work with US band ‘The Medic Droid’ with his remix of their track ‘Fer Sure’ which also went on to become a worldwide hit. Known for his intense stage presence and floor filling musical abilities, be sure to watch out for S3RL as he mixes up a storm and continues to keep the crowd jumping with all his future productions.

About Sharam: “There’s a presence about Sharam that comes through in his music as well as his shows. Like any great relationship, you leave his show feeling as if you’re a better person… the Sharam experience.” From underground classics like Texi, Get Wild and Don’t Say A Word, to scoring international chart toppers, like PATT (Party All The Time) and The One, Sharam’s musical credits are as dynamic as his DJ sets. His production collaborations include artists such as Kid Cudi, Shakira, Patsy Cline, Chris Martin and Daniel Bedingfield just to name a few. He seamlessly navigates between hypnotic underground sets rooted in his rich history of house and techno, while entertaining younger dance enthusiasts of today with laser like focus and dedication to quality. His motto remains ‘entertain while educate’. His sound is Ibiza in Vegas. His style is limitless.

STG Presents AlunaGeorge at Neumos on August 3, 2016.

\In the two years since pop alchemists AlunaGeorge – aka singer and lyricist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid – released their critically lauded debut album, Body Music, they’ve barely stopped. From world tours to festivals to Katy Perry support slots to collaborations (2015’s frenetic “To Ü” with Skrillex & Diplo) to chart-slaying remixes (DJ Snake’s version of “You Know You Like It”, i.e. one of the most streamed songs of all time), their world has expanded immeasurably from the tiny London studio they started working in back in 2010.

Somehow, in amongst the madness, they’ve managed to find the time to write and record a follow-up album that confidently maintains their unique sonic palette – a soulful, pop-leaning take on downtempo dance and experimental R&B – but also takes it forward into bolder territories. Lead by the dancehall-tinged, ludicrously catchy banger “I’m In Control”, featuring Jamaican rapper Popcaan, it’s an album that channels their experiences into a delicious melange of pop styles. “We were going for that holy grail of songwriting,” explains Aluna of the record. “It was an attitude of ‘let’s see what else we can do’,” adds George.

DIRTYBIRD Records was founded around a grill in San Francisco, a simple mantra of good times, good tunes, good eats and some serious sauciness. Fast forward 15 years and the recipe ain’t changed, and DIRTYBIRD BBQs still taste as good as they ever did. This summer VonStroke and the Birds will be hitting the road, cooking up some jams and pulling up for some hijinks as the DIRTYBIRD BBQ Summer Tour heats up. Stay tuned for more info and tickets.

About DJ Jazzy Jeff: DJ “Jazzy Jeff” Townes was born in West Philadelphia and developed a love of music at an early age. Jeff was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties using his family’s basement as a training ground for his expert mixing. Since 1985, DJ Jazzy Jeff has wowed us with his flawless turntable skills, innovative production and musical versatility. From the success of “DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince” with partner Will Smith, to the critical acclaim of his production company “A Touch of Jazz”, Jeff proved time and time again that he would always be a force to be reckoned with. And he continues to represent with his solo projects, collaborations, mixtapes and live shows. His love of music shines through in everything he does. Over the course of his career, DJ Jazzy Jeff has achieved many accomplishments including a DMC Championship and multiple GRAMMY and American Music Awards and nominations. But he is a humble man who is still doing it as his 2002 hit said: “For Da Love of Da Game.”
