Meagan Jane Marron, Occult A/V, Scuzz Nun & Aria Bare

Deathrage Collective presents Death Rehearsal: An evening of left-of-center electronic music from the Pacific Northwest. Highlighting some of the most exciting up-and-coming, DIY, and experimental electronic artists out of Seattle and Portland, this month’s Death Rehearsal will feature hardware sets from Meagan Jane Marron, Occult A/V, and Scuzz Nun. The evening will kick off with a DJ set by Portland-based techno producer Aria Bare. Come for the vibes and stay for all the friends you make along the way. You only die twice so make it count.

Meagan Jane Marron (PDX): Meagan Jane Marron began her music career as one half of Seattle-based queer industrial duo, BUTCHer and now creates solo hardware-based music inspired by old-school EBM, industrial techno and “IDM” as well as the machines themselves. Now based out of Portland, Oregon, Meagan has released a series of tapes under her previous name, Cat Breath, and recently began releasing music under her own name with an EP titled “Mast” via Delusional Records. Meagan is excited to announce the release of a new CD, recorded live at Patchwerks in Seattle, on January 20. Come celebrate with us!

Occult A/V (Seattle): Occult A/V is the solo electronic project of David Kumler, a musician, producer, multimedia artist, and academic currently based in Seattle. Kumler is best known for his work as half of the postpunk/darkwave outfit Foxxxy Mulder, and has also released a handful of garage/punk tracks under the moniker Cosmic Bummer. Inspired by artists ranging from Pye Corner Audio, Burial, and Underground Resistance to J Dilla and Madlib—as well as Carl Sagan’s astrophysics documentaries, the filmography of Adam Curtis, and the writings of Mark Fisher—the music of Occult A/V is equal parts cosmic and hauntological: It explores the relationships between human and the infinite, as if to remind us that human history is nothing more—and our lives nothing less—than reverberations of the big bang. Part hallucination, part dream, part rave, Occult A/V will have you pulsing to the rhythms of another world.

Scuzz Nun (Seattle): Scuzz Nun, a mainstay of the Seattle experimental sound scene, disrupts noise conventions by bringing original experimental film projections (e.g., Kenneth Anger and Maya Deren) to the stage with live compositions. Their enveloping soundscapes emerge from distorted analog omnichords and synthesizers, droning and harsh, yet somewhat ambient and melodic.

Aria Bare (DJ Set – PDX): Aria Bare is a queer techno producer and DJ based out of Portland, Oregon. Aria’s emotionally charged warehouse techno blends aggressive rhythms with swirling synths and distorted ambient soundscapes. Aria is also one half of the techno duo Stepsisters, a collaboration with Seattle’s Mirin Doja.
