This March, Grooving for Good will be amplifying the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition, with all proceeds of the night going toward the nonprofit’s PNW operations! Grooving for Good amplifies hope and resilience through the power of dance music. We create safe spaces that bring together and celebrate those who wish to enact meaningful change within their communities. We’re normalizing conversation surrounding our mental health so together we can Bloom. The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition works to improve the black trans human experience by overcoming violence and injustice in the world through the power, value, and love of all people. Working daily to improve the lived experience of transgender people, their work is based on peacebuilding, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs, and direct services. Music is better beside one another. Let’s Groove for Good!
DJs:
Alfonso Tan: Rising, Seattle-based, dance music DJ & producer with a passion and attitude that rattles dance floors. House. Tech house. Disco, and occasionally techno. He’s covered a lot of ground in his relatively short journey as a DJ: playing for many of Seattle’s more prominent outfits (LOST, Nark Magazine, Field Trip, Uniting Souls, Studio 4/4, etc.) at the city’s hottest venues (Monkey Loft, Q Nightclub, Kremwerk, Re-Bar, etc.), as well as venturing out to rock parties in Vancouver, Boston, San Diego, and Palm Springs. Let’s vibe together!
ASW: Founder of Grooving for Good, ASW believes in harnessing the power of dance music for social change. His style is a surreal dream that blends numerous genres and influences, backed with a house music pulse. Releases on Brooklyn Fire Records, Popgang Records, and Atlantic Records, and called an emerging artist to watch by DJ Mag in 2021.
Cafénico: Cafénico is more than a café or a brand, more than one single person, more than a rave, more than a genre, it’s a vibe. A vibe that can’t be so easily described, but brings folks together into a safe space where they feel comfortable expressing themselves in any way their heart desires. As life always sways in between darkness and brightness, cafénico embraces this journey in all his mixes, hoping to instill a sense of introspection while the audience dances away into the night.
C0smic J0ke: She is born from over a decade of influence from the bass and house scenes. Today, the queer mixologist gets behind the decks to deliver a radical perspective of duality on the interplays within dance music and its many genres. C0smic J0ke is an up-and-coming DJ/producer in Seattle whose identity is sure to enchant, mystify, inspire, and revitalize the mind and body.
Gold Chisme: Gold Chisme is the alias of Seattle-based Latinx DJ and electronic producer Christine Gutierrez. Born and raised in Chicago, she was originally influenced musically by weekend cruises in her parents’ car listening to Chicago house, funk, hip-hop and Latin music. As a young woman, she started singing for black metal and electronic bands, pivotal experiences that opened her up to the world of on-stage music performance. Since then, her love of music has continued to grow and expand as she’s become an in-demand DJ with over ten years of experience behind the decks with past residencies at Jupiter Bar, Stayin’ Alive Disco, and Runaway.
Longstocking: Denni Kindred, aka. Longstocking is part of growing WestCoast current back to the BIPOC/Queer/Gender Queer roots of House Music. Unhappy with seeing how far House Music veered from its roots, Longstocking decided to be part of the effort to change that. While it’s been a challenge rising as a transfemme/Non-binary artist, her releases speak for themselves and she is consistent in only signing with allied labels. So far Longstocking has delivered Late Night Munchies, out of Seattle, their first Beatport #1 and did the same for He.She.They. Records (Warner Music sublabel) out of London. In fact, all four of their self-releases have garnered podium finishes at the very least. See less
